Jilly’s Butternut Crunch Candy
Submitted by: Kimmie
I call it Jilly’s because I got the recipe from my friend Jill, and it has been a favorite of ours around the Christmas holidays. I usually double the recipe and use separate kinds of nuts on each due to some of my friends having allergies.
I am still searching for a picture and will post it as soon as I find it.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 regular size bag of chocolate chips
1 box unsalted saltine crackers
1 regular size bag of crushed nuts
Preheat oven to 325 degrees
Line a 9 X 13 pan with foil
Place crackers side by side on bottom of pan until it’s covered
Melt together the butter and sugar until if forms a thick caramel
Pour the mixture over the crackers
Bake uncovered about 10 or so minutes until it starts to bubble
Remove from oven. Some of the crackers will have lifted up. Gently push them back down into their place
Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top and gently spread evenly, I uses a spatula
Sprinkle the nuts on top and gently push down so they can set into the chocolate
Place in freezer for a half hour, uncovered
Remove from freezer and lift foil out of pan
Break into chunks and enjoy
I store it in tupperware at room temp.
Enjoy!
