Meditation for Stress Relief and Healing

Submitted by:  Kimmie

Meditation is a great stress buster and may even provide healing, but how easy is it? Meditation is described as training of your mind for some benefit.  Some of the benefits could be reducing stress, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, release of anger, possible healing and much more.

I call myself a struggling meditator.  I know it’s good for me.  I know it’s therapeutic, healing, calming, all of the above. But darn, sometimes it’s the hardest thing to do. I am an extremely high stress/anxiety type A person.

You can meditate quietly using a mantra (repeated phrase).  You can also use guided meditation being led in a class or online video. My routine? Well, I usually do a morning workout, stretch, then get myself all comfy and load a meditation onto my iPhone.  If I don’t have a lot of time, I will do a short, 15 minute meditation. Two of my favorites on YouTube are Doreen Virtue’s, Let Go and Let God and Doreen Virtue’s Angel therapy for healing.  Let Go and Let God has the sound of relaxing water in the background, kind of like a waterfall and stream.

I get myself all comfy and push play, deep breath, blow it out…..and after about two minutes, my mind starts to wander….which load of laundry to do first……should I go the grocery store today or tomorrow……oh wait, I’m supposed to be meditating…yes, relax, give it to God.  Yes, help me to be more healthy, calm,…I really should dust the shelves in the living room…….oh yeah, what a great idea for my website, let me pause this and message myself. Meditation is HARD!

Apparently, I’m not the only one that has this problem.  I have talked to people who have been meditating a lot longer than I have and they tell me this is normal and I should just keep bringing myself back into a peaceful state. So that’s what I do. Some days it’s easy, some days not.  But I keep trying and that’s what’s important.  There are days when I am almost calm and focused and can get through most of the meditation with little interruption.  It’s those days that the rewarding feeling afterwards, is so completely refreshing, and eye opening.

If you can just get through it all, it is so worth it! Give it a shot! What have you got to lose?  Don’t give up if your mind strays, just try to bring it back into focus! You will feel so much better afterward, I promise!

There are so many free meditations on YouTube, there’s no excuse not to try!

Namaste
